James Bastien was born in Bellingham, Washington, on April 10, 1934. His father, Clarence, was musical and played the violin. His mother, Dorothy, was a writer and a high school Latin and journalism instructor. After living in Seattle and Florida, the family moved to Portland, Oregon, where Jim began his piano studies with Frances Mulkey North. Subsequently, Jim studied with the late Ariel Rubstein, the late Louis Artau, and the late Gyorgy Sandor.Jim received his undergraduate and masters degrees from Southern Methodist University. He was a former member of the faculties of Notre Dame University, Tulane University, Loyola University (New Orleans), and the summer faculties of Tanglewood and the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan.Jim met his wife Jane Smisor in New Orleans in 1960. They performed as the duo-piano team, Smisor and Bastien. In addition, Jim was a Columbia Artist accompanist whose collaborative career included appearances with Richard Tucker and John Alexander. During this time Jim and Jane started writing music to address the needs of their students. This was the beginning of the Bastien piano books that have inspired so many piano students and teachers. The Bastien piano books have been published worldwide by the Neil A. Kjos Music Company since 1963 and are now translated into 14 languages. In 1999, The Music Teachers National Association presented Jim and Jane with the Lifetime Achievement Award, the association's highest honor, in recognition of their outstanding career in music and contribution to the music profession.James W. Bastien, loving husband and father, and a passionate piano pedagogue and musician, passed away on December 7, 2005, in La Jolla, California. During his long career, Jim became internationally known through his contributions to piano teaching, composing, writing, adjudication, and performing. With more than 300 publications to his credit, the Bastien name has become synonymous with innovative piano pedagogy.

Your students will gain a better understanding of the music they are playing, and they will learn more easily when theory instruction is a regular part of their piano studies. Each page is carefully correlated with Piano, Performance, and Technic.

Level 1 presents theory materials correlated with Piano.

love it. simple book for a starter. love it.It is for my kid's lesson. I bought it for my kid's piano lesson. It was recommended by her teacher. The Only Books I Teach From This is the only series of piano books out there that has really stood the test of time. I first came in contact with them when I was grade school and taking piano lessons myself. 30 years later, they are the only books I teach from. I enjoy the pace they use and the progression of skills that they offer. So often books skip around or don't build well on previous skills. That is not the case with Bastien.

Bloating: ugh. About the most common complaint they get from patients, according to gastroenterologists. But Tamara Duker Freuman, a highly trained and sought-after nutritionist, knows something many doctors don’t: every unhappy belly is unhappy in its own way. That’s why Tamara’s clients call her “The Bloated Belly Whisperer,” and for good reason―for many years she’s successfully helped her clients accurately describe their symptoms, and find a course of treatment that delivers rapid and lasting relief.

In The Bloated Belly Whisperer, Tamara guides readers through the same steps she would use in a consultation, first with a quiz to help them hone in on their specific symptoms, and then by discussing the latest research and patient stories to offer dozens of solutions that will reduce abdominal bloating in a week or less by:

· Helping identify the specific cause of bloating
· Equipping readers with the right terminology and questions to take to their next doctor’s visit
· Teaching the most effective dietary remedies for each particular brand of bloating
· Laying out the tools and healthy practices to end abdominal distress and bloating once and for all

100 Things Every Designer Needs to Know About People (Voices That Matter) Free Pdf

Title: 100 Things Every Designer Needs to Know About People (Voices That Matter) Pdf
Author: Susan Weinschenk
Published Date: 2011
Page: 242

Susan Weinschenk has a Ph.D. in Psychology, and over 30 years of experience as a behavioral scientist, applying psychology to the design of communication and online interactions. She is a consultant to Fortune 1000 companies, start-ups, educational institutions, non-profits, and US government agencies. Susan is the founder of the Weinschenk Institute, LLC. She is a speaker and teacher, and has written several books, including How To Get People To Do Stuff, 100 Things Every Presenter Needs To Know About People, 100 Things Every Designer Needs to Know About People, and Neuro Web Design: What makes them click? Susan writes two popular blogs: the Brain Wise blog at Psychology Today, and her own blog at her website: theteamw.com/blog.

We design to elicit responses from people. We want them to buy something, read more, or take action of some kind. Designing without understanding what makes people act the way they do is like exploring a new city without a map: results will be haphazard, confusing, and inefficient. This book combines real science and research with practical examples to deliver a guide every designer needs. With it you’ll be able to design more intuitive and engaging work for print, websites, applications, and products that matches the way people think, work, and play.

Learn to increase the effectiveness, conversion rates, and usability of your own design projects by finding the answers to questions such as:
  • What grabs and holds attention on a page or screen?
  • What makes memories stick?
  • What is more important, peripheral or central vision?
  • How can you predict the types of errors that people will make?
  • What is the limit to someone’s social circle?
  • How do you motivate people to continue on to (the next step?
  • What line length for text is best?
  • Are some fonts better than others?
These are just a few of the questions that the book answers in its deep-dive exploration of what makes people tick.

Very Informative Book, Outdated Online Resources There's a lot of great information in this book. Unfortunately, pretty much every single time I tried to visit one of the URLs referenced throughout the book, I found that the page in question was no longer available. The author should really consider updating these (and maybe using URL shorteners in the process to make the URLs more readable). Still, great book.I deeply recommend it. Starting with anyone in a beginning typography ... Typographic structure. One of the most insightful courses that helped clarify my thoughts as a graphic designer was a writing course. It started with an understanding of how our brains need to structure information in order to understand it. To create typographic structure that really serves people it is necessary to understand these deep structures. How all new information links to new whether that is in a sentence, a paragraph, or an article. How the beginning and ending of a piece is a natural point of emphasis, etc. This book deals with how we read, how we think, how we absorb information. All in one place. I deeply recommend it. Starting with anyone in a beginning typography class to seasoned professionals.Share It with Those You Love This is a must read book for designers of any kind. Some of the "studies" and research backing the claims are questionable though. I mean, really, you could say that everyone draws a coffee cup from a canonical point of view based on many theories and studies... or you might just say that's usually the way everyone experiences a coffee cup, thus we depict it that way in drawing. But, all in all, this book presents some great reminders of principles that we know to be true but don't consciously evaluate day to day. If nothing else, you can use it as ammunition to back-up you design choices.

Pictures dont match I'm reading this textbook for an American history class. The material is pretty dense at first, but once you get used to the style of writing it is quite interest. My issue is that halfway through the textbook the pictures didn't match their descriptions. I assume this is an error in the formatting of the e-book. Pretty dissappoiting because I like the photos.Pages stuck together The book was decent. My two stars is for the fact that 90%of the pages were not cut properly. They were still stuck together and I had to rip them apart to get into my book.Amazing Read about our Rich History. this book is an amazing read if you are new to this Country or a Student who is interested in learning more about our Great country Rich History and culture. then my friends please do not Look further because your Quest for the Truth has ended. it is Packed with Gold Nuggets of beatifical Histories like the Amazing WW1, WW2, the Great Depression. after reading this book you will Want to make America Great again. I know I do :)
