Head First Python Pdf

ISBN: 1491919531
Title: Head First Python Pdf A Brain-Friendly Guide
Author: Paul Barry
Published Date: 2016-08-25
Page: 550

Paul Barry is formally educated and trained in Computer Science and holds a Masters Degree in Computing Science. He has been programming professionally, on and off, for close to 25 years. Paul already has two textbooks to his name, and is also a Contributing Editor to Linux Journal magazine. His day job is with the Institute of Technology, Carlow in Ireland where he has spent over a decade preparing Ireland's next generation of computing folk to be productive in the workforce. His role as a third level educator affords him the opportunity to explore, learn and teach the very latest programming technologies and practices, which is something that he enjoys even though he knows this makes him a bonafide "geek". Paul lives just outside the town of Carlow in Ireland with his wife, two sons, daughter, dog and cat. There's a bunch of computers and a growing collection of music instruments in the house, too (and like a lot of the Head First family, Paul is a struggling guitarist trapped inside a geek's body). He has so far resisted any suggestion that the family acquire a hamster ... or a set of drums.

Want to learn the Python language without slogging your way through how-to manuals? With Head First Python, you’ll quickly grasp Python’s fundamentals, working with the built-in data structures and functions. Then you’ll move on to building your very own webapp, exploring database management, exception handling, and data wrangling. If you’re intrigued by what you can do with context managers, decorators, comprehensions, and generators, it’s all here. This second edition is a complete learning experience that will help you become a bonafide Python programmer in no time.

Why does this book look so different? Based on the latest research in cognitive science and learning theory, Head First Pythonuses a visually rich format to engage your mind, rather than a text-heavy approach that puts you to sleep. Why waste your time struggling with new concepts? This multi-sensory learning experience is designed for the way your brain really works.

Easier to get through the book because its fun to read. Excellent introduction to Python. The book focuses on being fun to read and providing a real understanding of why things work the way they do. The other two intro to Python books I have are not fun to read and concentrate more on trying to teach the reader as many functions as possible but at the cost of being a bit dry.The author spends several chapters explaining how Python can be used to create a web app that stores and manipulates user entered data in text and SQL databases. This is also a topic I was very interested in but assumed I would need another book for it.I invested about 30 hours over 2 weeks going through this book and I feel that I now truly understand the foundation of how Python works. This book is definitely not a reference book but that's what Google is for.Don't hesitate, just buy this book! I have read a number of Python books and watched videos but this book really digs down and explains a lot of what goes on under the hood. Excellent explanations, often repeated in different ways so that it is hammered home. Can't recommend any other book as much as this one. A must have!!!!!!!!!!!!Great book although Kindle search is lacking When faced with a bunch of different Python books, this one looked like the most engaging. I opted for the Kindle edition, as I assumed that the search function would be essential. To be sure, HFP gets you right into coding. Before you know it, you're writing programs. I also revisited some SQL statements and learned some Mac Terminal commands along the way. I found Homebrew and MariaDB far easier to navigate than MySQL.I was able to follow along and endure the inevitable bumps. (One minor pet peeve: Kindle search didn't pick up code because the publisher chose to store these snipets as pictures. This made searching more difficult.)My mind is like oatmeal because a newbie programmer cannot learn a robust general-purpose language such as Python in ten days. Still, I enjoyed the book and know 100x as much about Python as I did two weeks ago.

Notorious RBG Download

ISBN: B00TP0554W
Title: Notorious RBG Pdf The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Featured in the forthcoming documentary, RBG

“The authors make this unassuming, most studious woman come pulsing to life. . . . Notorious RBG may be a playful project, but it asks to be read seriously. . . . That I responded so personally to it is a testimony to [its] storytelling and panache.”— Jennifer Senior, New York Times

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg never asked for fame—she has only tried to make the world a little better and a little freer.

But nearly a half-century into her career, something funny happened to the octogenarian: she won the internet. Across America, people who weren’t even born when Ginsburg first made her name as a feminist pioneer are tattooing themselves with her face, setting her famously searing dissents to music, and making viral videos in tribute.

Notorious RBG, inspired by the Tumblr that amused the Justice herself and brought to you by its founder and an award-winning feminist journalist, is more than just a love letter. It draws on intimate access to Ginsburg's family members, close friends, colleagues, and clerks, as well an interview with the Justice herself. An original hybrid of reported narrative, annotated dissents, rare archival photos and documents, and illustrations, the book tells a never-before-told story of an unusual and transformative woman who transcends generational divides. As the country struggles with the unfinished business of gender equality and civil rights, Ginsburg stands as a testament to how far we can come with a little chutzpah.

Designed by "#millennial" women, inspiring for anyone I don't think someone from my generation would have the imagination to design a book this way, or to include a photo feature about a Supreme Court Justice's "swag." But fundamentally this is a wonderful book about the difference an individual can make. The book's breezy style has a deeper and more serious significance, as well.I was touched by many things in this book, not only the courage of Justice Ginsburg's opinions, or the loving handwritten note from her dying husband, but even by the photos illustrating her close friendship with Justice Scalia, one of her ideological opposites - it's rare to see such a mensh in these times. The format is terrifically creative for this sort of subject: the NY Times reviewer aptly described it as being "as if a scrapbook and the Talmud decided to have a baby." The latter comes in especially for the way the book's margins are used for commenting on everything -- not just for the obvious connections to a Justice who is Jewish. (Apropos of that, though, one thing did puzzle me: the recipe for pork in milk at the back. Breaking two of the Jewish religion's food taboos at once -- isn't that a little gangsta? Was that the idea, or is the whole thing a joke? And actually, one other thing: the publisher's subject classification on the back cover is "Fiction." Aside from the recipe, I hope not.)I now live in Japan and teach comparative constitutional law there. Pretty much no one, including most law professors, can name the justices of the Japan Supreme Court, who are chosen for their anonymity, their conformity to a certain social background, and their timidity of thought. And throughout its nearly 70-year existence, the JSC has always upheld laws and regulations that limit civil rights. One reason I got this book was to be able to show my students how completely different the relationship between a country's Supreme Court and its citizens can be. In most countries of the world, a book like this would be inconceivable. While I'm not saying that many other Justices deserve such a tribute, this book should be a great reminder for Americans how lucky you are not only to have Justice Ginsburg, but also to be capable of such affectionate engagement with your government.boy am I disappointed I've been a huge fan of RBG and was looking forward to a thorough account and analysis of her life, career, and achievements. But this just isn't it.Sure it glosses over some major legal milestones, but it spends as much time on her workouts, wardrobe, baby pictures, etc. It contains a mere 200 sparsely printed but amply (and beautifully) illustrated pages, and really offers little other than coffee table amusement to any normal adult. I'm planning on either donating this to my son's middleschool library or gift it to a progressive minded pre-teen girl; that's the audience this book is pitched at.My fault, I guess. It's a lesson learned in online shopping; I should have gone to a physical bookstore to browse before buying.Giving 2 stars because it may be good for the right audience, i.e., inspiring pre-teens to the idea of public service.I was disappointed as I wanted to read about why she is ... I was disappointed as I wanted to read about why she is the woman she is, not a laundry list of her achievements. It was written in a very simple style with no challenging ideas, and no concepts that made me actually made consider the difficulties involved in her decision making.I read about half of it and put it away, as I lost interest in what seemed like a love story about how much we should adore RBG. I already adore her and her ideals and did not want to read a litany of her life anecdotes. My life had more challenges and reading about hers came off as boring. Sorry, I wanted to love this book, but couldn't.

Title: Girl, Stop Apologizing (Audible Exclusive Edition) Pdf A Shame-Free Plan for Embracing and Achieving Your Goals

This exclusive Audible edition includes five downloadable prints featuring beautifully designed quotes from the book and access to Rachel's inspirational keynote from the wildly popular Rise Conference.

"I believe we can change the world. But first, we've got to stop living in fear of being judged for who we are."

Rachel Hollis has seen it too often: women not living into their full potential. They feel a tugging on their hearts for something more, but they're afraid of embarrassment, of falling short of perfection, of not being enough.

In Girl, Stop Apologizing, number-one New York Times best-selling author and founder of a multimillion-dollar media company, Rachel Hollis sounds a wake-up call. She knows that many women have been taught to define themselves in light of other people - whether as wife, mother, daughter, or employee - instead of learning how to own who they are and what they want. With a challenge to women everywhere to stop talking themselves out of their dreams, Hollis identifies the excuses to let go of, the behaviors to adopt, and the skills to acquire on the path to growth, confidence, and believing in yourself.

Taste and See Free Pdf

ISBN: B07JVS7LXL
Title: Taste and See Pdf Discovering God Among Butchers, Bakers, and Fresh Food Makers

God is a foodie who wants to transform your supper into sacrament.

One of America's most beloved teachers and writers, Margaret Feinberg, goes on a remarkable journey to unearth God's perspective on food.

She writes that since the opening of creation, God, the master chef, seeds the world with pomegranates and passion fruit, beans and greens and tangerines. When the Israelites wander in the desert for 40 years, God, the pastry chef, delivers the sweet bread of heaven. After arriving in the Promised Land, God reveals himself as barbecue master, delighting in meat sacrifices. Like his foodie father, Jesus throws the disciples an unforgettable two-course farewell supper to be repeated until his return.

This groundbreaking audiobook provides a culinary exploration of Scripture. You'll descend 400 feet below ground into the frosty white caverns of a salt mine, fish on the Sea of Galilee, bake fresh matzo at Yale University, ferry to a remote island in Croatia to harvest olives, spend time with a Texas butcher known as "the meat apostle", and wander a California farm with one of the world's premier fig farmers.

With each visit, Margaret asks, "How do you read these Scriptures, not as theologians, but in light of what you do every day?" Their answers will forever change the way you read the Bible - and approach every meal.

Taste and See is a delicious listen that includes dozens of recipes for those who, like Margaret, believe some of life's richest moments are spent savoring a meal with those you love.

Perhaps God's foodie focus is meant to do more than satisfy our bellies. It's meant to heal our souls, as we learn to taste and see the goodness of God together. After all, food is God's love made edible.

See you around the table!

Always read Margaret's Works! I "met" Margaret Feinberg several years ago when I first read her book FIGHT BACK WITH JOY. I have been in love with her and everything about her ever since. I was honored beyond words when I received an email asking if I wanted to be part of the book launch team for her new book TASTE AND SEE, so I certainly jumped at the opportunity to read the first three chapters before the book's 2019 release date!!And I am not in the least bit disappointed, of course. Margaret has discovered another wonderful way of looking at the Word of God that I simply had never even considered: via food. And it IS powerful. As I'm reading the words on the page, it seems such a simplistic concept. I want to hit my forehead and say, "How did we not know all this already?!" But at the same time, it's so wonderful that it's one of my favorite Bible teachers who is teaching this study. I can't wait for the whole book and Bible study to be released so my ladies and I can delve into it thoroughly.TASTE AND SEE is another example of the truth that God's Word is alive--that God is still revealing Truth to His children through the Holy Spirit. We will always be learning more about Him. If you think that Bible teachers of old have learned and taught all there is to know about God and the Word of God, then you don't understand the LIVING Word of God.Reading even these three chapters not only has taught me so much in just three chapters and gotten me excited for the rest of the book, but it also has gotten me super excited for when I begin re-reading my Bible again for 2019!!!I hope you'll pre-order TASTE AND SEE and see what Margaret is talking about in her amazing new study! Thank you, Margaret!Such a unique way to see the Bible! Taste and See is a book about so much more than food. Through her wonderful gift of storytelling and because of her years of research and actually visiting the butchers, bakers, and fresh food makers; Margaret opens the readers senses to God's word. This book awakens a hunger for the deeper things of God while taking the reader on amazing food adventures! Such a unique way to see the Bible!A mix of foodie fun and spiritual nourishment Taste and See by Margaret Feinberg merges Food, Friends and Bible Study. Recipes are even included! For a Christian, I just don't see how it gets much better than this. Each chapter in Taste and See is a culinary adventure with a different location featured. The author shares her adventures as she mixes food and God together and comes up with a recipe for the reader learning and growing through each chapter. At the end of each chapter, Feinberg offers an activity to do with family and/or friends around the table. There are also several recipes that look truly delicious. I especially like that the Bible is set in the Mediterranean area so these recipes are all a part of the Mediterranean diet that I choose to do each day for my health. There are recipes for baked halibut, lamb lollipops, sour dough starter and bread, roasted figs and Brussels sprouts, and gluten free dark chocolate cookies. In the back of Taste and See, there is a list of all of the recipes for easy reference. I confess that I haven't tried one yet, but I picked out several that I want to try. The recipes look easy to follow in the way they are written.I especially like how conversational and down-to-earth Feinberg is in Taste and See. It was both interesting and fun to read. There are also fun pictures of Feinberg as she went to each of the places mentioned in the book to do her research. It isn't hard to visualize her making the travels or cooking with her husband. There are also side bars with extra tidbits of interesting information and simple activities to do to put faith in action. I think this would be such a fun book to do in a small group or with a group of foodie friends. I truly enjoyed the whole book.

Into the Wild Free Pdf

ISBN: 0385486804
Title: Into the Wild Pdf

"God, he was a smart kid..." So why did Christopher McCandless trade a bright future--a college education, material comfort, uncommon ability and charm--for death by starvation in an abandoned bus in the woods of Alaska? This is the question that Jon Krakauer's book tries to answer. While it doesn't—cannot—answer the question with certainty, Into the Wild does shed considerable light along the way. Not only about McCandless's "Alaskan odyssey," but also the forces that drive people to drop out of society and test themselves in other ways. Krakauer quotes Wallace Stegner's writing on a young man who similarly disappeared in the Utah desert in the 1930s: "At 18, in a dream, he saw himself ... wandering through the romantic waste places of the world. No man with any of the juices of boyhood in him has forgotten those dreams." Into the Wild shows that McCandless, while extreme, was hardly unique; the author makes the hermit into one of us, something McCandless himself could never pull off. By book's end, McCandless isn't merely a newspaper clipping, but a sympathetic, oddly magnetic personality. Whether he was "a courageous idealist, or a reckless idiot," you won't soon forget Christopher McCandless. "Terrifying...Eloquent...A heart-rending drama of human yearning."--New York Times"A narrative of arresting force.  Anyone who ever fancied wandering off to face nature on its own harsh terms should give a look.  It's gripping stuff."--Washington Post"Compelling and tragic...Hard to put down."  --San Francisco Chronicle"Engrossing...with a telling eye for detail, Krakauer has captured the sad saga of a stubborn, idealistic young man."--Los Angeles Times Book Review"It may be nonfiction, but Into the Wild is a mystery of the highest order." --Entertainment Weekly

In April 1992 a young man from a well-to-do family hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. His name was Christopher Johnson McCandless. He had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself. Four months later, his decomposed body was found by a moose hunter.  How McCandless came to die is the unforgettable story of Into the Wild.

Immediately after graduating from college in 1991, McCandless had roamed through the West and Southwest on a vision quest like those made by his heroes Jack London and John Muir.  In the Mojave Desert he abandoned his car, stripped it of its license plates, and burned all of his  cash.  He would give himself a new name, Alexander Supertramp, and , unencumbered by money and belongings, he would be free to wallow in the raw, unfiltered experiences that nature presented.  Craving a blank spot on the map, McCandless simply threw the maps away.  Leaving behind his desperate parents and sister, he vanished into the wild.

Jon Krakauer constructs a clarifying prism through which he reassembles the disquieting facts of McCandless's short life.  Admitting an interst that borders on obsession, he searches for the clues to the dries and desires that propelled McCandless.  Digging deeply, he takes an inherently compelling mystery and unravels the larger riddles it holds: the profound pull of the American wilderness on our imagination; the allure of high-risk activities to young men of a certain cast of mind; the complex, charged bond between fathers and sons.

When McCandless's innocent mistakes turn out to be irreversible and fatal, he becomes the stuff of tabloid headlines and is dismissed for his naiveté, pretensions, and hubris.  He is said  to have had a death wish but wanting to die is a very different thing from being compelled to look over the edge. Krakauer brings McCandless's uncompromising pilgrimage out of the shadows, and the peril, adversity , and renunciation sought by this enigmatic young man are illuminated with a rare understanding--and not an ounce of sentimentality. Mesmerizing, heartbreaking, Into the Wild is a tour de force. The power and luminosity of Jon Krakauer's stoytelling blaze through every page.

Great Biography This book gave a great insight of the path Chris McCandless's troubled life took.I watched the movie "Into The Wild" a few years back and have always been curious and saddened to think about Chris's journey. This book seemed to clear the story a bit. Sometimes I had a lump in my throat thinking that this is not a "character" in a made up story but a real life that seemed to yearn for a peace that only existed in his heart. Jon Krakauer does a great job of giving us a key hole view of "Alex's" life. The good times even when he had nothing. I personally feel like unfortunately Chris was a troubled individual weather it was mental imbalance or emotional disconnect and after this book I feel so sad for his torment. The movie left me disliking his parents, but this book turned that emotion completely around. And I loved the Epilogue. Thank you Jon Krakauer for that. If the movie intrigued you most definitely read the book.Better than the film Much better than the film of the same title.Whether you think the subject of this novel died due to his own stupidity and hubris or of a simple mistake while he was making a noble, philosophical pilgrimage, this book is gripping and fascinating.Enjoyable and Poignant Book I watched the movie, "Into The Wild" and it really moved me and made me want to buy the book. It is very readable and non judgmental. The book really captures the essence of Chris McCandless and his need to live a very unconventional lifestyle. Mr. Krakauer did an amazing amount of research for this book. I enjoyed Chapter 14 of this book in which Jon Krakauer describes his climb of the Devil's Thumb when he was 23 years old and how it nearly ended in disaster. Mr. Krakauer was able to feel empathy for Chris McCandless because of his own adventurous youth. Chapters 8 and 9 tell of Gene Rosellini, John Waterman, Carl McCunn, and Everett Ruess, other unconventional people who also perished in the wilderness in a quest for adventure. The essence of the book is that most of us do dumb or dangerous things in our youth, but we survive and grow older. Chris McCandless, Everett Ruess and the others never got that second chance. I saw a short video on youtube in which a man obtained the jacket that Chris McCandless had when he died and this man found Chris's drivers license, social security card, and about $300 in cash in a secret compartment of the garment. Proof that Chris had no thought of suicide when he embarked on his Alaskan adventure. He fully intended to come back from the wilderness. "Into the Wild" is a a short but very poignant book.
